In East Tennessee, around every corner is natural beauty and wonders that can awaken your senses — on a distant hilltop, an eagle spreads its wings; honeysuckle vines clinging to fences and barns; crickets singing at the foot of a mountain; fireflies lighting up the summer night sky; cascading waterfalls massaging your soul as you picnic on a wooded trail; and then there is native son, Michael Dean, who has that gentle yet rugged look synonymous with the Appalachians. Michael has a body where the abs and shoulders may fight for your attention, but his baby face and lips give him the total male model package. Michael has left the hills of Tennessee for the Big Apple to embark upon a career in modeling and acting. PnV caught up with Michael Dean for an interview and exclusive photo shoot in New York with the talented lens master, Michael Hallenbeck:
So, first some basics, Michael. What is your age, weight, and height? Hair/eye color? Birthday? What agency (if any) represents you? What is your hometown & current residence?
20 years old
185 lbs
5’11
Blonde hair
Hazel eyes
February 28th, 1996

From: Knoxville, TN
Live in: Rahway, NJ
Career-wise, Michael, what is your ultimate goal?
Aspiring Actor.
So fill in for readers about how you got into fitness competition, and what you have accomplished thus far.
I was a wrestler for 7 years. After high school, I needed to keep training so I got into weight lifting. I have a passion for training intensely and that comes from wrestling for so long. I competed for a year and a half in the NPC Men’s physique and won Mr. Knoxville men’s physique.
So, am I right that your fitness drive morphed into modeling? Michael, tell us why and how you decided to break into modeling.
Honestly I’ve always been told that I should go into modeling; yes my body is what got me into modeling but I now want to go into more fashion modeling rather than just fitness modeling.
What is it that you like so much about modeling?
With modeling I use the best of my talents, it’s like acting and I’m playing a role.
The shoot we are showcasing today was taken my Michael Hallenbeck. Tell us about the shoot – some behind the scenes stories and what it was like to work with him.
This was the first time I had shot with Michael Hallenbeck, and it was a lot of fun. We went around New York to several of his spots to shoot and then took a cab to Central Park. That was my first time being in Central Park and I loved it!
You also just did a shoot by Edwin Lebron for Aronik Swimwear in Puerto Rico. Tell us about that experience.
Edwin is such a good guy and I had so much fun shooting with him. The Aronik team took really good care of me when I was down on the island. I made friends with everyone and we still all stay in touch.
Tell us what kind of modeling work you envision yourself doing, Michael? You have the face of a commercial/fashion model, but the physique says fitness.
I would like to get into more of the fashion and cologne side of the industry.
In the fitness modeling world, you have a very clean, professional, wholesome look…not as rugged as some of your colleagues. Does that work to your advantage?
Yes! I don’t have any tattoos and I’m going to keep it that way! Although I have a muscular physique, I have a boyish face so I use that to go for the All-American boy look. I’d say I’m doing so well so far.
I’m elated that you will never ink that body, Michael! With you being from conservative East Tennessee, how have friends and family reacted to you modeling?
Everyone from back home is very supportive of me. Not many people from where I’m from leave and especially not to somewhere like NYC.
How have you adapted in moving from Tennessee to NYC? What do you miss most about beautiful Tennessee? Is this a permanent or temporary move?
I always felt like I’d fit in better in NYC and I was right. It took me about 45 seconds to adapt to the city and I LOVE it! I do miss the lakes in Tennessee and the outdoors. I used to hike a lot back home so I miss the scenery, but I am here to stay!
Who are some photographers you would dream to shoot with?
Bruce Weber and Brian Jamie are on my list for photographers that I want to work with.
How would you describe your personal fashion style, Michael?
A nice pair of boots, jeans, and a v-neck is my go-to-outfit. Very simple, not too edgy, and All-American.
So, besides modeling, are you also a fitness trainer? Do you also have sponsorships?
I used to be a personal trainer with clothing and supplement sponsorships. However I am transitioning away from that to go into more fashion.
I’m oversimplifying, but what is your approach to fitness? What are the biggest mistakes that obese people typically make besides the obvious?
CONSISTENCY is the biggest key to training. There are thousands of workout and diet plans out there, but everyone is different and you need to find what routine you like, that fits best for you and STICK to it. Being consistent to a diet and training plan will produce results no matter what.
With your own training, what are the one or two exercises that you find most beneficial to your success?
Pull-ups are the best exercise for upper body, and box jumps are the best for lower body. Each of these are very complex compound movements that work multiple muscle groups.
Tell people something off the beaten path that we would be surprised to know about Michael Dean.
Although I have a very ‘clean’ look now, but when I was a young teenager I used to get into a lot of trouble with the law and was a total bad boy!
Now the Flash Bulb Round…..quick, simple responses:
–Favorite all-time movie? Bourne Identity
–Favorite vacation site? Ventura, CA
–Favorite underwear brand & style? Calvin Klein Briefs

–Your biggest vice? I’m a big prankster so if you’re around me watch out
–What 2 physical features do people compliment you on the most? My lips and my arms
— On the Model Nudity Scale, rank you level of nervousness (1=none, 10=very)? I’m not nervous about my body at all, in fact I’m very comfortable being naked but I just don’t do nudes for personal reasons. So… 1!
–Favorite 2 brands of workout clothes? Jordan and Nike

In Memoriam: Jorge Ilich / Dec. 28, 1988 – June 26, 2016
By Tom Peaks @MrPeaksNValleys
Beautiful Jorge Ilich (Jorge Navas) died on Sunday night under mysterious circumstances in Miami, FL. We are heartbroken within the PnV family and our extended family, and send our condolences to his family and friends.
I first met Jorge two days after his 26th birthday on Dec. 30, 2014. As old followers may know, back then I did ‘twitter interviews’ with new and top models since I lacked a web presence. Jorge had caught my eye, and I worked very hard to get his attention. We finally connected on that day. He was very eager to do an interview with me. Despite some language barriers, we got to know each other over the next…what would sadly be… the final 18 months of his life.
One thing I’ve learned about twitter and social media is that you can make friendships and bonds that are meaningful despite no face to face interaction. You can learn a lot through words. Jorge was sweet and playful, yet very serious about his craft. He loved acting. He had appeared on the Venevison soap opera, “Heart Esmeralda,” as well as other Latino programs and TV campaigns for brands and designers. He came to America with dreams from his native Venezuela. He wanted a better life. Jorge was smart. Degreed in architecture, he hoped to one day design skyscrapers. He loved urban architecture from Chicago and New York to Berlin and Paris. He had lived briefly in NYC. But, he wanted to pursue acting first. He took acting classes in Mexico and Miami. He also was committed to learning the English language and took classes in Miami to speak our language.
Jorge enjoyed modeling. He once told me his favorite male model inspirations were Bryant Wood, Lucas Garcez, and Nic Palladino. He wanted to be affiliated with the best. Jorge, I came to find, was a perfectionist. He was very hard and demanding on himself. He used to drive me crazy asking me to remove photos that he didn’t like—and sometimes they were photos he just sent me. I knew if I posted a Jorge Ilich image that the twitter delete button better be on stand-by. He would say he looked too skinny or silly…or he didn’t like the pose or color. He wanted to be the best. I wish I could get one more Direct Message from Jorge asking me to take down a photo and replace it with another one.
On July 5, 2015, I happen to ask Jorge how he was doing with his career and living in America. He said, “Really, I’m happy with my life. I’m doing amazing.” One thing most fans might not know about Jorge is the love he had for his 5 year old nephew. Jorge was helping to raise him, and felt like a father figure to the child. He always became prideful and boastful talking about the boy. The nephew was a big priority in Jorge’s life; they even shared the same birthday. I can’t begin to imagine the void.
Jorge last sent me an image on June 16. I so regret we didn’t have the opportunity to converse that day.
“There was a long hard time when I kept far from me the remembrance of what I had thrown away when I was quite ignorant of its worth.”
― Charles Dickens, Great Expectations
So, below is my interview with Jorge Ilich from January, 2, 2015. Again, unlike many of my recent interviews, which are intended for long form, this one was designed for me to capture facts to put within tweets. But I wanted to share with you the Q&A in its entirety. Often, especially with language barriers, I like to polish them a bit. However, Jorge put a lot of effort into speaking functional English. I found it charming, and watched him improve over time. Hence, I wanted to present Jorge in his own words.
Jorge, what is your age, height, weight , eye color and hair color?
I’m 26.. 5’11. 160. Green. Light Brown.
Where did you grow up and when did you move to Miami?
I was born in Venezuela and grew up there, as adult I’ve spent some time in several countries for purposes of study and work.
You have a degree in architecture from the University of Santa Maria? Why did you choose architecture and why are you not using your degree?
I love the architecture, urban design my passion and I would someday see a building designed for me, I do not work as an architect because the situation in Venezuela is not suitable for you to live there, much less develop my career.
Jorge, what are the biggest differences in life in the USA compared to Venezuela?
I would not say that is better or worse, but clearly there is a difference in the USA behavior of people, quality of things, and as the country US remains as to order and social stability.
How long have you modeled and/or acted? How did you get into modeling/acting?
I started when I was 15, with Garbo And Class agency, Caracas, Venezuela did many things in Mexico and then last year I decided to study acting and prepared with teacher Alonso Santana (casting director Televen).
What has been your best experience modeling so far?
It would be difficult to choose a better experience, each has something special, however there is a day that marked me and that they newcomer to America I went to LA and I had a day full working with several photo shoots, and of course a magnificent result, it is best that one day I did great things.
What has been your best acting experience so far?
A very comical character I had in a telenovela in Venezuela where character is gay, but was very small part and was very funny.
What are your long-range career goals, Jorge?
I want to be ready from and film actor, I reach the summit of success in Hollywood and be rewarded in the Oscar ceremony.
How often do you work out? What are your favorite exercises?
I try to do 5 days a week, but I’m too lazy to exercise what I required, I like doing squats and crunches.
What 2 body parts do you get the most compliments on? What do you think is your worst body feature?
My legs are what mostly receive praise, naturally are very sturdy and have nice way. For me the worst may be my waist, it never looks as I wanted.
Favorite sin foods for when you are naughty?
Chocolate and nutella, I’m an addict, in fact every day as something of these.
How do you make yourself comfortable for nude or nearly nude shoots?
The truth is that nudity does not cause me shame. To be clear to me that I am a professional and I work with professionals, so the subject is modesty aside.
Favorite style of underwear in your personal life?
Briefs Calvin slim type
How do you balance time?
Almost always I am in the street, between one thing and another I do not have much time indoors, although I would. I am more home and spend quality time with family.
What is your dream place to visit in the world? In America?
In the world Tokyo. In America Chicago. (love architecture, when I travel I am only noticing constructions)
What is it like helping to raise your nephew? How old is he?
Has four years, is a blessing! His birthday is the same day as mine (Dec 28). That I live in the same house, my sisters and I take care of him and he gives us so much joy and love. He is the smartest kid I’ve ever met, apart from being bilingual, he has an obsession with numbers and letters, is impressive numerical and strong reasoning ability.
Favorite American actors/actresses?
Sandra Bullock and Johnny Depp
Tom’s Note: Accompanying this article are a mix of professional and selfies of Jorge through the years. He used to tell me that he was my ‘selfie king.” In fact, here is the first and last selfies he sent me. The first was from Dec 30, 2014 as he was wearing his Christmas reindeer top. The last was from June 16, 2016.
Jorge, may your dear soul find peace. RIP.

We are in Paris, in the studio of Alexandre Eustache and he easily flashes around capturing every single movement of 23yo model Théo Sanchez, shooting across the studio to take the best angle of Théo, his assets are bottom and legs, he has strong legs, confirming by flexing every single muscle of his leg. This is how Alexandre shots Théo with stunning captures and iconic shots and all suddenly happened in Paris.
Let’s see if anyone can be a real alpha male.Since the days of B.C., man has followed leaders, people of high lineage, so they can be their guides in life, we want to know how to identify that leader, as knowing who the alpha male is and why all the world is following.
The term alpha male comes from anthropology and social psychology that is a really a top man, a chief, a boss a leader of a group, hierarch, etc, every human being followed by people.
How you can identified an Alpha Male in the way he looks, it can vary, but I think you may qualify this following points:
Angsty alpha type: Masculine and moody, while these exceptional colors should be used sparingly, if at all, by the proletariat, the rules simply don’t apply to society’s dominant males. Elitist ebonies, condescending cobalts and grandiose greys accented with powerful purples and metallics grays.
An Unemployed underachiever type: Wait! Do you think this kind of guys could be an Alpha Male, read and you’ll see it: Could be identified with colors that are bold and bright are the signature of this demographic that is anything but. Lacrosse jerseys, UFC hats and frat t-shirts reference the glory days of the recent past. Most of them has nice toned fit body, but they covered with layering clothes.
Timid technophile type: Having stuck out for their entire painful adolescence, these nascent professionals just want to blend in. This year a versatile spectrum including both warm and cool greys aways them. When feeling particularly extroverted, a confident black or white can be integrated into the wardrobe, and any color is acceptable in the form of a beloved logo.
Paranoid prepper type: To recognize this guy is easy, these colors don’t run…unless they’re chasing hordes of nanny-state zombies through the ruins of a collapsed society. If you’re currently preparing for a violent armageddon or shaking your fist at the goverment, this is your color familty. Graudated greens, discreet drabs and basic browns let you disappear into any environment and outflank the starving hordes of normals. Add a dash of blaze orange as a cagey tip-off for friendly militants to hold their fire.
This is the complete guide to identify a Macho Alpha, so any sign you recognized you had on your own, or somebody else, well now you know. Don’t feel intimidated to know one guy of this, they are everywhere, they are our teachers, Presidents, Mayors, the leader of a band, the leader of an AA group, our fathers and sugar daddies.

Being Brad Murphy! Capturing the inner serenity and vivid descriptions of model Brad Murphy, we present part two of our PnV exclusive interview with the Arizona hunk, represented by Soul Model Management in NYC. We explore his career, travels, personal style, and he even gets to vent about greed. Get to know the passion behind the sexy Brad Murphy:
After a friend motivated you to do Phoenix Fashion Week when you were 20 years old, you started breaking into modeling. When did you know you were ‘sexy’ in that modeling kind of way? When did it sink in?
I never really saw myself sexy… and still really don’t because I feel that ‘sexy’ is a feeling. I feel sexy when I move people…. When people are affected by me. Causing someone to bite their lip, eyes to dilate; a slight inhale is sexy… just as much as a smile, a laugh, or even a hug that is compelled by something I do. Sexy to me is like passion, it is felt, not seen. We have gotten into this idea that it’s physical but sexy to me is anything that moves us internally…
“Every single thing about you should feel sexy. Beyond how it looks. It should feel. Let it feel! Forget sight. Sexy will be seen every time….but only if 1st, sexy is felt.” —Brad.
You had played ice hockey forever and did construction work in the insane Arizona heat. That had to be a big transition culturally to modeling/acting. Did it bother you, Brad,…having men and women suddenly sexually objectifying you? Wearing make-up and dressing provocatively? Explain what was going on in your head when you made this big turn in your life.
It was a big change but again I always felt whatever it takes to be happy, I’ll do it. Especially if I help others find that happiness. It took me about 5 years to get out of the athletic me, and I still deal with it in a way of realizing game day won’t ever happen again… those moments in the locker room right before the game huddled as a team praying, and chanting our team name to get fired up to go down that tunnel with crowd cheering to unleash and compete!!!! It was a dramatic transition from more of an athlete into the creative I see myself as… but really I just tapped into something that I have always relied on. The passion and imagination I always used. The same intensity I miss from sports I fuel in everything that I do now that gives me the same feeling sports did… The sense of not thinking, and just being, expressing myself with my body and potential. I just followed what made me feel expressive…what makes me feel free. To not think and just be. Guess I didn’t think too much of how it made me feel, just kept following my heart.
I only know big business, and you appear to hate the Wall Street mentality. What’s your beef, Brad?
It just seems like big business, once they get so big, their motivation is mass production. Getting as much out as possible. I get it, we all like money… but consumer appreciation should be the motive…not job security. For instance Whole Foods sprays their produce with an “edible petroleum wax for freshness”??? That’s not in respect of our bodies, that’s to help their produce last longer so they get more money out of us. Our health and well-being should be such a motive they sacrifice and resent mass production. The CEO should work their company with the smallest person in their company in mind.
How do you respond when people deduct that Millennials are lazy and self-entitled, wanting things handed to them?
That’s a funny question. Far too relevant to the irony and contradictions that come from those that do make those statements… Those that are so observant, and critical, forget they are the ones that created us. I find that too much, people are too easy at talking about the problems and lack compassion, rather than being more open minded and focusing on a solution and having compassion. We have been trained to live fast, and buy buy buy, want, want, want… I think slowly but surely yoga, meditation, and just a strive for balance will outcome this because living materialistic really doesn’t make us happy and it takes depression in order to have invincible happiness.. And I think happiness every day, no matter what happens is what we all desire right? Find your inner serenity.
Tell us about your experiences and love of Italy.
The people, the food, the sites… everything seems so straight forward. Organic. Like no questions, what you see is what you get. In Italy I felt people were much more tolerant of each other. Much more accepting. I noticed in Italy, beauty is admired. Beauty in the trees, in the ocean, the marble rock, the slightest reflection off the marble rock to change the color of the ocean was considered a wonder. They call these grotto’s and on the island of Capri ever since this experience on this island I will never be the same. Appreciating life in a much simpler way. The sky and clouds in the Mediterranean is one of the most beautiful skies you’ll ever see. And you can feel it…. Watching the sunset one afternoon as the last tip of the sun fell over the curvature of the Earth falling behind where eyes can no longer see, the people cheered and clapped! I was blown away by the power of the sunset, and obviously never alone in that admiration.
“I remember the day I got there on my 2nd trip biting into a pineapple. From my taste buds embrace of that sweet sensation instantly pulled it away from my mouth to where my eyes could catch up to the feeling of “woah”. The power of something so simple and I thought to myself, “I am back to this beautiful place, and didn’t even really realize it until this bite. I fell in love in this moment with Italy” —Brad.
You were on the TV show, “The View” delivering pizza recently. Tell us about that.
Well that was a lot of fun because some of the ladies on that show, that I grew up watching on TV I think seemed to really like the everything pizza I brought to their show…One of those moments where I told myself, smiling back, “guess your grown up now”.
Your work with the 2015 Land’s End Christmas campaign was huge. What was that experience like?
I was sitting in a taxi in NYC coming home at about 3:30 am, having a rough past couple weeks really, was feeling kind of down then when I see the Land’s End campaign come up on the TV in the taxi, and I flipped. The taxi driver and I shared the moment of excitement where he congratulated me and it really brought my spirits up. Sometimes we need some validation that our hard work is worth it and to just keep going.
Tell us about TWO of your favorite moments in modeling that we have not yet discussed.
My very 1st experience in the audition when I walked up with my number I got one of the most amazing smiles from one of the judges. I don’t think any smile ever affected me in my life to this point like her smile did. It gave me a feeling of I could do this. I’ll never forget that moment. 2nd is being every time I work and collaborate with other artists, models, photographers, writers, creative directors etc… Art is a collaboration of energy. A relationship between 2 or more things. The feeling and inspiration never ends from the moment it’s created. So every time I get the chance to collaborate with someone with real passion, I fall more in love with art!
Who are some photographers whom you enjoyed collaborating?
My friend Bruce Weber, from the moment we met I felt blessed. His presence is even more beautiful than shooting with him because of who he is as a person and artist. He’s really passionate about opening you up and letting you run wild.. .as a spirit, as a person… like with his own strong heart knocks down the stable and lets the horses run wild. Shooting with him was just capturing that moment of being wild and free. I’ll never stop growing from that; run wild, let go, and just love and let love!
What is your own personal fashion style?
I have always been passionate about doing things differently than the masses. Fashion is an expression heard every time before the mouth can explain so for me personally I like a little laxidazical mixed with classy and edgy. Like you can present me to your grandma and be proud and among your corporate associates wearing suits as well as grab drinks at the club…. all with the same outfit. Gotta be dynamic I feel, people don’t remember what you say, they remember how you made them feel.
Tell us something that people would be shocked to know about you.
I love cooking. I think there’s something so sexy about cooking and providing something great to people. Plus how sexy does this dish sound that I cooked recently; “6 cheese porcini mushroom bell pepper stuffed chicken breasts with sautéed brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes” bon appetit.
Now the Flash Bulb Round…quick, simple responses:
